Weather Vanes Fly Out

Who would have thought the witch weather vanes would be so popular!! We've recently had another batch delivered and have only one left. same is true of the witch wall plaques. And the museum isn't even open yet - all these sales have been online, some as far afield as the US and Switzerland. We are trying to get our manufacturer Ron to devise a flat pack version which will make shipping easier. He's still working on it & we'll let you know when he has cracked it. The Wheel of the Year posters are back in stock - they are also another popular item. The Horned God poster will be changed to match the Wheel versions we have sold out of the current style. We've had some suggestions for new prints which we will be doing in the next couple of weeks so keep an eye out for the new pics.

Back in Town

Well I'm back at the helm after a month away over the Yule & New Year holiday season. Thanks to Carole for looking after the show for me while I was away. The good news is that the witch weather vanes & metal wall plaques are back in stock, as are the glass knitting needles. I'll be sourcing new products for the site & the museum so keep an eye out for new items appearing soon.

Out of Stock Update

As we deal in mainly Museum of Witchcraft retail items, we are often out of stock of some products at this time of year. The museum is closed over winter so stock levels are lower now. Many of the products, like the weather vanes, are hand made so take some some time to get in. We have spoken to our supplier & he hopes to have some weather vanes & wall plaques to us in January. So apologies if your product is currently out of stock - we are hoping to have most levels back up to normal early in the New Year.

We've popped a few new products on the website for your purchasing pleasure. Some cute stocking filler type items like witch key rings & witch pencils have been a favourite in the museum this year.

It's sometimes difficult to find candles in the right colours for your spellcasting needs so we've added some packs of 12 small candles in either mixed or single colours.

And for the adventurous among you we have just introduced some beautiful quartz phallic altar pieces. We have been trying to find these for some time & have just managed to get hold of some (so to speak). Can be used for virility or fertilty magic.

New silver pentacle

We have added the fabulous new silver hazel pentacle to our store recently. It is based on the design from the Dutch Richel Collection which has become something of a logo for the museum. It has proved extremely popular so far & is exclusive to the museum & our web site. A pewter version is also available.

Some changes on postal charges

You may notice a slight change with some of the postage charges on some items. It is mainly where multiple identical items are being ordered. Single purchases will not be affected. We are looking into a better shipping calculation method particularly as we are now experiencing a much greater number of international orders.

Continuous Trading Over Winter

We've had several queries regarding whether we'll be trading over winter while the museum is closed. The answer is Yes. The musuem closes November 3rd this year & will reopen at Easter next year. Online orders will continue so feel free to use the site for Yule gifts for yourself & others.

New Products

We've had a few new additions to our product line recently. The silver hazel pentacle (£30.00) based on the Richel Collection twig style drawing is the most recent. It is being made for us in West Penwith, Cornwall by St Just Silver - a well established Cornish business. A pewter version is also available for £10.00. Our jute bags have been a hit as have the black cotton bags. The price of Doreen Valiente's Charge of the Goddess book has been increased to £10.00 as our supplier's price has increased. The Credit Crunch hits the witchy world too unfortunately.

Ever Greener

The museum has recently launched a new line of jute bags for the eco conscious green witch. They come in 4 gorge colours with the popular museum logo on the front. Here I am sporting the bags in front of the museum shrine. There is also a black cotton bag with white logo for the traditionalist.

Changes

You may notice the price has increased on the rowan crosses and witch bottles from £6.00 to £7.00. This is due to an increase in our supplier's price to us. I have decided to absorb the cost by reducing the shipping on these items so as you are not paying the extra. Aren't I nice?! Keep an eye on the site as we are adding new items in the next few days - the museum sells recycled glass chalices which will be appearing here by the weekend and the Richel hazel pentacle has been made as a pewter necklace exclusively for the museum. This will be appearing in the next few days as well.

Esoteric Conference & Occult Book Fair

This is a reminder for those interested that The Esoteric Conference & Occult Book Fair is on on Saturday 28 June 2008 in Ludlow Shropshire. This is always a popular event & has attracted many fabulous speakers in the past. This year is no exception: Ken Rees will speak on The Regency; Julia Philips on Madeline Montalban; Tracy Thursfield on Eliphas Levy & the French Occult revival; Robin Cousins on The Travels of John Dee; and Alan Richards on W.G.Gray. I believe there are just a few tickets remaining (£15.00 each).

The ever popular Museum of Witchcraft t shirt continues to be a big seller so we have tiptoed into the world of fashion and have introduced a couple of new colors. The black with white pentangle remains the most popular but we now have a rather gorge round neck charcoal with white or black pentagram and a v neck in lime green with white or purple pentagram. They are currently available in medium or large but if they prove popular we will extend the sizes. We have a few small red with black pentagram v neck left but once they are gone they are GONE.

It's been a bit of a frantic start to the year so far. We had a great weekend at the Devon & Cornwall Pagan Federation meeting in Kilkhampton a couple of weekends ago, doing a roaring trade in t shirts & Museum of Witchcraft paraphernalia. Unfortunately I have been called to Australia due to a family illness &, as I make the glass knitting needle cases myself, we have run out due to high demand at the beginning of the season. I am hoping to call in a seamstress to make some in my absence. Apologies for this but we are trying to get the stock up & running again as soon as we can.

Harbour pics

As promised here are a few photos of the harbour taken yesterday. Note the biggest crane in the world (slight exaggeration) readying itself for the replacement of the bridge. The river is being widened & lowered along the area outside 'Things' store. The Gateway building (aka the new toilet block), which is located at the entrance to the car park, is on track to be finished in mid January apparently.

Change to Posters

You may note we are out of stock of the popular Wheel of the Year Poster. Panic not! We are reprinting the posters but in a slightly different format. They are currently printed on oversize A3 paper & we print them ourselves. They have become extremely popular & we can't keep up with demand with our small scale printing outlet so we are going to outsource the printing & do them in the larger A1 (more posteresque) size. Hopefully this should reduce costs. We're hoping to have the ready in a couple of weeks. Thanks to John Hooper for supplying us with the artwork for The Wheel of the Year. Society of Pagan Arts

Had a good trip up to Ludlow for the Society of Pagan Arts Fair on Saturday. There were some really top notch exhibitors there but unfortunately there were not a lot of customers coming through the doors on the day. That was a real shame - last year's event was much busier. We did OK though. I shared the stall with woodcarver Steve Patterson again. He did a roaring trade in large iron nails! Interesting!! Ludlow is such a lovely place. There was some rather disturbing post flood damage to some buildings near the bridge though - a bed hanging out of a half demolished house -very upsetting. Anyway, I'm not sure if it will be happening next year. Ian Steele, the organiser, may change the setup a bit. We shall see!

Society of Pagan Arts

Steve Patterson (woodcarver/magician) & I will be attending the Society of Pagan Arts exhibition in Ludlow on Sept 1st. We went to the first one last year & it was extremely pleasant. There was a good array of pagan art there - not a lot in the way of unicorns or dolphins (not that there's anything wrong with that - it's just nice to see something different). So if you're in the area do pop in & check it out. You're likely to come away with something fabulous!

We're about to introduce a new Museum of Witchcraft product to the site this week. The well known hazel pentagram from the Richel Collection has been used as a design for the new Museum of Witchcraft tea towel. Yes you can now be reminded of the museum every time you wipe your dishes!! They come in white or black. Keep an eye out! Also to be added is a new book by Owen Davies, 'A People Bewitched: Witchcraft and Magic in Nineteenth-Century Somerset.' This author's books are always well researched and very informative re the subject in question. You may notice the wooden pentacles have been removed as the museum is no longer stocking them.

Society For Pagan Arts

Anyone in the Ludlow area can find us at the Society for Pagan Arts Festival in Ludlow on the first weekend of September. We attended last year 7 had such a lovely time we decided to go along again. Steve Patterson will be showing his woodwork on the same stall. Steve specialises in green oak carving & specialises in particularly attractive thrones & unique witchcraft themed sculpture. He also makes a mean bull roarer. Hope to see you there!

Flood Aid from Boscastle

The village of Boscastle has adopted the flooded Yorkshire mining village of Catcliffe as a focus for fundraising efforts after the floods recently. If you visit Boscastle you will see collection boxes dotted around the businesses and streets. We have collected £2,750 so far & we are putting comfort boxes together to be taken up to the village in the next few days. With the latest terrible flds to hit the Central part of the Uk we hope other villaes will follow suit & adopt a village to support as well.

The museum has some fabulous new dark mirrors (scrying mirrors) and flying pretty witch dolls which have just arrived. Beltane Bash

Our online sales are going well and the larger size t shirts are proving to be really popular. We believe we have sorted out the problems with multiple ordering but if anyone experiences any further trouble please let us know so we can rectify it quickly. We will be attending The Beltane Bash in London on May 27 & 28 & will have loads of the Museum's new CD 'Songs of Witchcraft & Magic' with us as well as the extended range of t shirts. Woodcarver Steve Patterson will be there to share the stall. I went along to the Mystics Arts Fair in Olympia on Saturday (not with a stall) t check it out fr next year. My favourite of the day was a wonderful couple of women there with a business called Arboretum who specialised in children's outfits. An interesting niche as it is difficult to find tasteful kids' clothes with a witchy flavour. Keep an eye out for them. I hope they do well.

It is already selling well as are the previous 'Chanting I & II' CDs which have been out for a few years now. Pagan Federation Devon and Cornwall

We had a great time at the Cornwall & Devon Pagan Federation meeting last Saturday. It was held in Kilkhampton just outside Bude and the number of attendees has risen considerably. We unveiled the latest Museum of Witchcraft posters which went down very well. As well as the Richel Collection images we included the ever-popular Wheel of the Year which was painted by Vivienne Shanley and is on display in the museum. People have been asking for a poster of this image for some time so it's great to finally be able to offer it along with the others. We're busy getting things sorted out for our expansion at the moment. The Museum of Witchcraft in Boscastle has asked if we would be their official online retail outlet so the website is being updated, products added, photography, pricing, ordering.........the list goes on. There will be some new lines and the museum is currently producing a new CD of witchcraft related traditional British folk songs which will be available on our site. Roger Pratt

Roger, well known in witchy circles around New York and surrounding areas, will be appearing on the Dave Letterman show in February sometime (he's obviously moving up in the world). Exciting times! We've updated the website and are adding new products so you'll have even more to choose from when you visit. We are hoping it will be easier to order too. Regular visitors may notice a small reduction in the price of our prints. This does not mean a reduction in quality. We want to make the prints as affordable as possible for those who wish to purchase one, and as you know, when volumes increase, prices are able to come down. New products are being introduced. We will shortly be offering Museum of Witchcraft posters based on our most popular prints, replica glass knitting needles which are fabulous for knitting as well as spellcasting, and Museum of Witchcraft Chanting CDs. New Site

We will shortly be launching our new website. Hoorah!!! We've been working on this for a while as we would like more flexibility to the site & we are introducing more products. The glass knitting needles have been going well as have the prints. Trevor & Liz, the owners, visited the museum last week & loved the prints so they asked if they could sell them in their store. New Information

Some of the prints on display at the PFI Conference in Holland have stirred a lot of interest in the Dutch community. One in particular is the one we thought may have been Hekate but it appears we were wrong and we have some more information about it. Following is an excerpt from an email I received recently regarding this print:

QUOTE: The figure is certainly not Hekate. It is a man, a Thesmopores, that is, a Guide by initiations, recognizable by the red cloak, mask, whip and wandAbove all the sign of Hermes is to his left. On the dish are the signs of the zodiac and the Hebrew letters are also part of a series. Ayin, Pee, Tzadi are the signs of the zodiac and the extra Shin points again to initiation. This (card) has to be part of a series otherwise the attributes have no connection. Probably it is a series of images of officers at a ritual, or phases of initiation. The other prints will then contain the other signs of the zodiac and Hebrew letters. This sort or series was not unusual. The steaming cauldron is a strange element.... END OF QUOTE

Lunteren PFI Conference

Well, what a great conference! The PF International meeting in Lunteren was very friendly with some excellent speakers & workshops. Everyone who saw the prints was very surprised to learn they were originally from Holland as they were kept secret whilst in that country. I took some small prints which proved very popular & I will be producing more of these. The most popular on the day were the witch & the mandrakes.
I did a talk on the Museum of Witchcraft & most people were still awake at the end so I think it went ok.

PF International

The Occult Art Company will have a presence at the Pagan Federation International meeting in Lunteren in Holland on 20th May. I will be taking a selection of prints over for a stall at the meeting. As they collection originated in Holland I thought it would be great if they were to be shown over there. I will also be doing a talk on the history and happenings at The Museum of Witchcraft. We have decided to frame some of the prints to show just how great they look and the Museum of Witchcraft is selling them exclusively for The Occult Art Company. They are priced at £55 framed and the unmounted prints are currently being reduced to £25.00 each. The web price will be reduced as well. Been a while

Have been away from the blog for a while as we are setting up the next stage of The Occult Art Company.

We have started selling prints at the Museum of Witchcraft itself and will soon be doing framed versions which look fantastic. As soon as I have them on the wall I will post a photo for you. We've sourced some really gorgeous frames & some great coloured mounts. We are going for deep greens, browns, & reds mainly as these colours bring out the best in the images. Pricing structure will be changing to reflect the new presentations. Watch out for an announcement in the next few days.

The website will be having a bit of a tweak too. New boy in the village, Max, the computer whizz is going to be checking the site over in the next few days to make some improvements.

We are getting a bit of publicity from here to Australia. Look out for articles in some upcoming pagan magazines. Will give details as they are being released.

Have just spent the past couple of days doing a massive mailing of info re The Occult Art Company. We need to get the word out that these prints are now available. Graham King, curator of the Museum of Witchcraft, who owns the copyright of the artwork says "it's important that this information is made public and not kept hidden away."
We had such a great response at the Devon & Cornwall Pagan Federation conference. We will also be attending PF International's Conference in Lunteren, Holland on May 20th. It will be great to get the reaction from Dutch pagans as the art originally comes from Holland.

Greetings and well done for finding us! As we have only recently launched we are not yet showing up on search engines so if you've found us tell your friends. As well as working to increase our profile in the UK we have people spreading the word throughout the US so hopefully we'll find our Occult Art prints on walls across the Atlantic.

I've asked those who have already purchased one of our prints to send us a photo of it framed and on their wall so I'll put them on the website when I receive them. There've been some great ideas. The Love Knots will be mounted on a deep red with a dark brown frame, the Feather is going to be mounted on an olive green, and one of the Mandrakes will be placed in a gold Roccoco frame. How gorgeous! Very Regal! I can't wait to get the photos so I can show them off.

A license agreement has been set up between The Occult Art Company and The Museum of Witchcraft so that by purchasing the prints you will also be helping the museum to raise much needed funds.

The Richel Collection came to the museum in 2000 from Holland and has been an extremely popular addition to the displays. As well as the artefacts on display, a large number of drawings and paintings reside in a series of boxes in the library, all lovingly filed in mylar sleeves to protect them from damage. Some date from the early 19th Century but we believe most are early 20th Century.

Initially we have chosen a smallish selection of images but if you see an image in the Richel Collection section of the museum website that you would like printed, please email us at info@theoccultartcompany.co.uk with the appropriate image number and it may be possible to print it for you.

We will be focussing on the Richel images to start with but, as time goes on, we will be expanding and including other items. Keep an eye on the news page to find out what's happening in the future.
